Catch a Monster Gem Farming Guide (2026)
Evolution gems are the primary resource bottleneck for every major monster upgrade in Catch a Monster. Many players find themselves grinding for hours to collect enough gems for a single evolution attempt. This guide covers every gem type, its exact drop source, and the fastest farming routes.
Why Gems Matter
Evolution gems are required to evolve monsters into their higher forms. Each evolution has its own gem recipe, and failed evolutions consume all materials — meaning optimal farming matters a lot.
The most commonly needed gems in the current meta: Refined Ground Gems — required for Solron (21x), the most-farmed evolution Refined Water Gems — required for Eclipse Knight (11x) and Lunavox Refined Fire/Ice/Plant/Dark Gems — required as supplement gems across many evolutions
Gem Types and Their Sources
Raw Gems vs. Refined Gems
Every gem exists in two forms: Raw Gem — dropped by bosses, found in chests Refined Gem — crafted from Raw Gems, or occasionally dropped directly
Crafting Recipe (Refinement Station):
3x Stardust Shards + 1x Raw [Type] Gem = 1x Refined [Type] Gem (75% success rate)
A 25% failure rate means you need roughly 1.33 raw gems per refined gem on average. Factor this into your farming calculations.
Gem Farming by Element Type
Ground Gems (Highest Demand)
Drop Source: Aurobull boss on Dunevil Isle Respawn timer: ~15 minutes Recommended level: 55–65 Drops: Refined Ground Gems directly (occasionally Raw) Why it matters: Solron evolution requires 21 Refined Ground Gems — the most of any single gem type
Aurobull Farming Route:
- Travel to Dunevil Isle
- Defeat Aurobull (collect Refined Ground Gems)
- If timer is not up, server-hop to a different public server
- Repeat across multiple servers simultaneously with friends for maximum output
Expected rate: 1–3 Refined Ground Gems per Aurobull kill. Solron requires 25–35 Aurobull kills on average including crafting failures.
Water Gems
Drop Source: Tidevex boss on Tideland Island and Tideland Rift rewards Also obtainable from Rift reward chests Eclipse Knight requirement: 11x Refined Water Gems (8x base + 3x from the combined recipe)
Fire Gems
Drop Source: Blazelord boss on Volcano Island Respawn timer: ~15 minutes Required for many hybrid evolutions as a supplement gem (1x each)
Ice Gems
Drop Source: Frostwyrm boss on Spirit Grove Island (Primary), Glazadon boss on Frost Isle (Secondary) Spirit Grove is Level 65+ content — bring your best team Frostwyrm also drops other high-tier materials
Plant Gems
Drop Source: Sproutusk boss on Forest/Grass Island and world event bosses Lower-level content, easier to farm Needed in small quantities for supplement gem requirements
Dark Gems
Drop Source: ShadeKnight boss on Neverland Island ShadeKnight is the Level 55 cap boss — defeating it also unlocks Level 55 Dark Gems are a key supplement gem for Eclipse Knight evolution (3x Refined Dark required) Respawn timer: ~15 minutes
Mixed Gem Sources
Any-type Gem Sources: Endless Spire Tower Shop (limited, spend Tower Gems) Event Shops and seasonal events Gem Boxes from the Rift Event Shop (random type — not recommended if you need one specific type) Chest drops throughout various islands
How Many Gems Do You Need?
| Evolution | Gem Requirements |
|---|---|
| :--- | :--- |
| Solron (Gildron → Solron) | 21x Refined Ground + 1x each Fire/Water/Ice/Plant/Dark |
| Eclipse Knight (ShadeKnight → Eclipse Knight) | 3x each of Fire/Water/Ice/Plant/Dark/Ground + 8x Water (11 total water) |
| Lunavox (Noctane → Lunavox) | Vitalium Stones + Water Gems |
Note: Secret evolution recipes (Eclipse Knight) are consumed on every attempt regardless of success. Average 10–25 attempts means 130–325+ Refined Gems total for one Eclipse Knight.
Gem Farming Tips
1. Prioritise Refined Gems over Raw Always craft your raw gems immediately rather than stockpiling raw. You want to see your Refined Gem count climb daily.
2. Server-hop between public servers Kill the boss, grab the gems, switch server, repeat. You can clear 4–8 servers per boss respawn cycle this way.
3. Farm with friends in Private Server A full party in a private server means the boss respawns faster relative to clearing speed. Coordinate with Discord carry channels.
4. Use Rainy weather for Gem farming runs Rainy weather gives +30% extra coin drops — use this time to farm bosses that also drop large coin amounts alongside gems.
5. Don't use Gem Boxes if you need a specific type The randomness of Gem Boxes makes them wasteful when you need 21 Ground Gems. Buy individual gems from events directly when available.
6. Track your Stardust Shards Stardust Shards are dropped by wild monsters across all islands. AFK farming on any island passively builds your Shard supply for Refined Gem crafting.
F2P Gem Efficiency Route
If you are free-to-play and need gems fast:
- Clear daily Endless Spire floors (Tower Gems → buy Rift Portals → event gems)
- Farm Aurobull on Dunevil Isle daily (biggest bottleneck for Solron)
- Server-hop boss routes during Rainy weather for maximum coin + gem efficiency
- Save event currency for direct gem purchases, not Gem Boxes
